Think of approach, policies to benefit Nigerians, Gani Adams charges FG

The Are Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams has called on the Federal Government to think of an approach and policy that will benefit Nigerians.

He stated that Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu should also be mindful of the pain and the hardship caused by some of the policies made during his administration so far.

Gani Adams further added that policies such as electricity tariffs and fuel subsidy removal have led to further inflation and increased pain and hardship for the citizens of the country.

He said this on Tuesday during during the 2024 edition of the Okebadan Festival held at the Cultural Centre, Mokola, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The Are Ona Kakanfo lamented that electricity tariffs which have become a big problem for Nigerians had affected virtually all sectors of the Nigerian economy.

He said “ One of the major policies of this administration outset was the idea of having an independent power supply in the states.

“As an opinion moulder in Nigeria, I feel the pain of the masses and I think the Federal Government can revisit the policy, considering the hardship and pains that Nigerians have been going through since the removal of the fuel subsidy.

“It is also in the interest of the government to ensure that a large percentage and the majority of the people are happy with the policies of this administration.

“Therefore, I am appealing to the Federal government to look into the electricity reform template and find a way of reducing the hardship that is being experienced by the people, as a result of the increase in electricity tariffs.

Gani Adams also called on the federal government and the National Assembly to speed up on the implementation of state policing for effective security in the country.

“The call for the creation of state police is gaining momentum across the country . As much as we need state police to take care of the security deficits in the country, there is an urgent need for us to amend the constitution in order to fulfil the demand and yearnings of Nigerians on effective state policing and other issues.

“It is also the responsibility of the president to encourage the National Assembly and influence them to work on the speedy amendments of the Nigerian constitution for it to accommodate state police as a panacea for effective security in the country.

“So, I am appealing to President Bola Tinubu to do his best by influencing the National Assembly on the need to amend the Nigerian Constitution to give way for state police.

“Like the growing pain experienced through the hike in the electricity tariffs, the fuel subsidy removal has continued to bring more hardship to Nigerians. It has also affected the Nigerian economy, drifting the country to further inflation.”

While speaking on state policing, The Oyo state coordinator, Oodua People’s Congress, Olatunji Rauf noted that state policing is a viable and welcome ideal, particularly in Oyo state.

He explained that organization such as OPC having close relationships at the grassroots and to the community level can work together with the state government in a bid to fight against crime in the state.
