Truck crushes three to death in Lagos

At least three persons have been crushed to death by a truck at barracks bus stop in the Badagry area of Lagos state.
The victims are a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada, and two passengers.
The deceased persons reportedly met their end on Saturday while violating traffic laws as they were riding one-way’ against the flow of traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, confirmed the incident.
According to him, the deceased were passengers on a motorcycle riding on ‘One-way’.
He added that the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, had retrieved the lifeless bodies trapped under an empty long ‘Man-Diesel’ truck.
According to Adebayo, “While these two motorcycle passengers died instantly, the rider later died at a hospital around Satellite Town.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that a truck driver while on a top speed lost control as a result of a rear busted tyre and rammed into a motorcycle plying one-way by Barracks Bus-Stop inward Iyana-Iba along Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

“While the truck driver ran away after the accident, Policemen from ‘Onireke’ Police Division’ took away the recovered two (2) dead bodies.”
The vehicle and the motorcycle were later evacuated off the road to pave way for an unhindered free vehicular movement around the expressway.
