University of Abuja vows to continue academic and administrative activities despite ASUU strike, condemning it as unnecessary
Vice Chancellor Na’Allah affirms commitment to normal operations, ensuring exams, Senate meetings proceed uninterrupted amid ASUU strike
The University of Abuja’s management has announced that academic and administrative activities will proceed as usual despite the strike initiated by the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
During a meeting with provosts, deans, directors, and heads of academic departments, the vice chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, condemned the strike, labelling it as divisive and unnecessary. He assured that the university’s management is determined to prevent the disruption of school operations.
Na’Allah emphasized, “As far as the university’s management is concerned, this institution is not on strike.” He declared his commitment to maintaining normal university activities, including ongoing exams and Senate meetings and ensuring the academic calendar remains uninterrupted.
Addressing concerns raised by ASUU, Na’Allah dismissed allegations of illegal recruitment, promotion delays, and issues regarding establishing a microfinance bank. He asserted that the university adhered to due process and engaged relevant oversight institutions.
The vice chancellor refuted ASUU’s claims, stating that the university’s actions aligned with broader educational policies, including ministerial directives. He emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue in resolving grievances rather than resorting to strikes.
The statement issued by the acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, reiterated the university’s stance on maintaining operational continuity despite the ASUU strike.
