Veritas student dies at university gymnasium

A student in the Department of Computer Sciences, Veritas University, Abuja, Mr Joshua Daniel has been declared dead.

The deceased died after he slumped on the 30th of April, 2024, while keeping fit at the University Gymnasium, a statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Head, Corporate Affairs of the University, Mr Ben Agande, said.

“On the 30th of April, 2024, one of our students, Mr. Joshua Daniel, while keeping fit at the University Gymnasium as he is wont to do, unfortunately, slumped and all attempts by the Medical Team, led by the Chief Medical Director, to revive him failed,” Agande stated.

He noted that the parents of the student were promptly informed of the tragic event and the school Authority, as a matter of procedure, duly informed the police.

He said: “Our thoughts are with the parents of late Mister Daniel as well as the Head of Department and Students of the Department of Computer Sciences over this unfortunate loss.

“We pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of our student and extend our most sincere condolences to the parents and pray God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“As a university, we will cooperate fully with the police, the parents of the deceased, and all relevant authorities to unravel the probable cause of death.

“We plead with our colleagues in the media and members of the public to be respectful of the privacy of our late student’s parents at this trying moment while the police carry out its investigations,” Agande stated.
