VIDEO: Lagos govt discovers another illegal settlement under Osborne bridge

The Lagos State Government has discovered yet another illegal settlement situated beneath the Osborne Bridge in the Ikoyi area of the south-west state.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, disclosed this development via his X handle on Thursday, along with accompanying videos showcasing the operation.

According to Wahab, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESCO), also known as KAI, has initiated immediate clearance efforts to dismantle the illegal settlement.

Sharing the videos, Wahab emphasised, “Another illegal settlement was discovered under the Osborne Bridge, Ikoyi. Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) commenced immediate clearance operation.”

This revelation follows closely on the heels of an earlier discovery made beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants were reportedly paying annual rents of N250,000.

Wahab detailed that the under-bridge settlement consisted of 86 partitioned rooms, varying in size from “10×10” to “12×10”.

He further noted that the enforcement team from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources had successfully dismantled all structures, including a container utilized for various illicit activities, from beneath the bridge.

In a statement, Wahab remarked, “A total number of 86 rooms, partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10, and a container used for different illegal activities were discovered under the Dolphin Estate Bridge.

“They have all been removed by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.”
