Why northern elites, others should rally round Tinubu — Illiasyu Kwankwaso

Alhaji (Dr) IlliasyuMusa Kwankwaso, a three-time commissioner in Kano State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called on ‘patriotic stakeholders’ in the northern part of the country to ignore the few individuals in the North behind attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and rally around him in his efforts to take the country to the ‘Promise Land.’

Kwankwaso emphasized that the northern elite, in particular, should support Tinubu, who, he said, provided maximum support to his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, throughout his eight years in office.

He condemned the recent protest against the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, labeling it as part of the negative antics targeted at President Tinubu, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and other leading politicians of the ruling party.

Kwankwaso accused certain politicians of double standards, criticizing them for not criticizing President Buhari during his eight years in government but now targeting Tinubu. He urged elders in the North to work with the governors of the region to bring about the benefits of democracy, emphasizing Tinubu’s achievements within his first year in office and accusing critics of turning a blind eye to these accomplishments.

He questioned why critics remained silent during President Buhari’s tenure but are now vocal against Tinubu, who supported Buhari during his presidency. Kwankwaso recalled the history of the APC, highlighting the agreements that led to the merger and the emergence of Buhari as president in 2015.

According to Kwankwaso, those behind the protests are the same individuals who breached earlier agreements and are now attempting to undermine the president and his associates through deceitful means. He praised Tinubu’s efforts in addressing insecurity in the region, citing improvements in travel safety between Abuja and Kaduna.

Kwankwaso urged critics to support Tinubu’s administration and focus on advocating for development projects in the region.

He also provided insights into Kano politics, mentioning a last-minute agreement that led to the declaration of Abba Yusuf of the NNPP as the state governor
