Why we banned traditional processions in Koton Kafe — Kogi govt

The Kogi State Government has issued a ban on traditional processions in Koton Karfe, located within the Kogi Local Government Area (LGA), due to security concerns.

This decision was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement released on Tuesday in Lokoja.

Fanwo cited security reports indicating potential unrest in the Koton Karfe community, leading to the proactive measure aimed at preserving peace.

“The proactive ban is aimed at curbing plans by some elements in the area to disturb the peace of the ancient town,” he stated.

Governor Usman Ododo has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring peaceful coexistence among the people of Koton Karfe.

Fanwo emphasised that the governor remains open to hearing complaints and grievances, urging people to avoid resorting to violence.

The commissioner stressed that strict adherence to the ban is required, warning that violators would be regarded as adversaries to peace and stability in the state.

He highlighted that the government’s decision is geared towards safeguarding the rights and safety of Koton Karfe residents and all citizens.

Law enforcement agents have been instructed to enforce the ban in accordance with legal provisions. Fanwo called on the Koton Karfe community to commit to peace and harmony, assuring them that the government is prepared to protect them from any form of violence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that former Governor Yahaya Bello had removed Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isah-Koto as the Ohimege-Igu Koton-Karfe on January 8.

Isah-Koto, who also served as the Chairman of the Lokoja/Kogi Local Government Area traditional council, was deposed to Rijau Local Government Area in Niger and was replaced by Alhaji Saidu Akawu-Salihu.
