‘You Sounded Highly Disrespectful’: Lawal Criticizes Osimhen

Ex-international players, including Oladimeji Lawal have condemned Victor Osimhen’s controversial comments about former coach Finidi George
Lawal criticized Osimhen’s remarks as disrespectful and urged him to apologize to Finidi George, calling the outburst unfortunate

Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, has sparked controversy with his recent social media comments about Finidi George, the former Super Eagles coach. This incident has drawn criticism from several former international players, including Oladimeji Lawal, who condemned Osimhen’s remarks as highly disrespectful.
In an Instagram Live video, Osimhen refuted claims that he had faked an injury to avoid participating in recent World Cup qualifiers. During his address, he bluntly stated that he had lost respect for Finidi, which angered many former Super Eagles players.
Shortly after, former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah called for Osimhen’s ban due to his “irresponsible” behaviour. Adding to this, Dimeji Lawal, another ex-international and current General Manager of 3SC of Ibadan, expressed his disappointment with Osimhen’s comments.
On his Facebook account, Lawal wrote, “You sound like someone who already prepared himself for battle against Finidi. Everything in this world can be staged, even a doctor’s visit and report, though I am not saying that’s the case here. Your outburst is unfair and unfortunate. You are becoming our hero, a legend, but belittling another super legend is uncalled for. You sounded highly disrespectful. It’s so unfortunate because we are seeing you as a perfect role model for this new generation.”

Lawal continued, expressing his admiration for Osimhen’s achievements and the energy he brings to the game. However, he emphasized that Osimhen’s recent behaviour was a significant misstep. “Personally, I love you and your achievements from a difficult background. The energy you used in playing is enough admiration. I joined Nigerians to support you for African best, but right now, you fall my hands with your unwarranted outburst.”
While acknowledging that Osimhen has the right to be angry, Lawal insisted that he should have exercised more caution. He advised the Super Eagles star to call Finidi and apologize for his mistake.
