The 44-kilometre Bida bye-pass and the Bida Ring road projects awarded last year by the Niger State Government are expected to ensure the free flow of traffic and also improve on the expansion of the ancient town of Bida in the Bida Local Government Area of the State.

The State Commissioner, Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, Suleiman Umar, stated this while expressing satisfaction with the quality of work done so far on the two projects.

The commissioner was in Bida in continuation of the inspection of the state government’s road contracts under the urban renewal project of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago-led administration.

While inspecting the project, the Hon. Commissioner, Umar Suleiman, explained that the exercise was to fast-track the completion of the projects as well as ensure that they were executed according to the contract’s specifications.

He commended the construction company on the level of mobilisation and the quality of work done so far, urging them to ensure conformity to standards and adding that the project will be fully monitored to achieve value for money by the government.

Also, the Chairman of the New Niger Project, Mustapha Abubakar, said the project is critical to the people of Bida, the state, and the country at large.

He said the road is part of the strategic projects under the New Niger Project designed to facilitate the vision of the urban renewal project.

Furthermore, the contractor handling the project, Mahmoud Ismail, and the site engineer, Sulaimon Olubode, who briefed the delegation on the scope and progress of the work, assured the timely completion and delivery of the project.

They maintained that the project has received adequate mobilisation as concrete work has already commenced on about 30 per cent of the road and the casting of most identified culverts has been completed.
