Ex-deputy gov, Ajayi, emerges PDP’s candidate for Ondo guber poll

Ganduje’s meeting with aggrieved APC contestants deadlockedHe polled 264 votes to beat other six other aspirants to the ticket in Akure. Ajayi was declared the winner by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who served as Chairman of the Primary Election Committee.
   
One-time House of Representatives member, Kola Akinjo, came second with 157 ballots, Sola Ebiseni took the third position with 99 votes, and Adeolu Akinwumi scored 64 votes to get fourth place.
   
Also, Bamidele Akingboye had 24 votes, John Ola-Mafo polled nine votes, and Bosun Arebuwa scored two votes. According to Ewhrudjakpo, out of the 627 elected delegates, 621 were accredited with 619 valid votes, and two void ballots recorded.
    
In his acceptance speech, Ajayi said: “Let me give glory to Almighty God for a day like this. The victory goes to all PDP members, and it is a victory for democracy.”

This came as the meeting convened by the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, with aggrieved contestants in last Saturday’s governorship primary in the state deadlocked yesterday.
 
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling, Duro Meseko, who spoke on the outcome of the closed-door parley maintained that there is no division among chieftains in Ondo State.
   
He spoke of an agreement to sustain dialogue and strike a common ground ahead of the contest later this year. Meseko added that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was prevailed upon to ensure an inclusive government in the Sunshine state.
  
State APC chairman, Ade Adetimehin, remarked that the mere fact that 15 of the aspirants participated in the parley confirmed the existing unity at the chapter.
