Kosi Ogboruche, Ini Dima-Okojie, Philip Asaya bring family drama to life in ‘Kill Boro’

Continuing its ongoing film releases, the First Features Project hosted a private screening of its masterpiece, ‘Kill Boro’, last Saturday at an evening filled with elegance and excitement.

The exclusive event held at Ebony Life Place, Lagos, featured some of Nollywood’s elites and socialites at an evening of cinematic excellence. The highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of Kill Boro, a film depicting the harrowing story of Elijah (Kosisochukwu Ogboruche), a young boy burdened by his father Boro’s (Philip Asaya) relentless brutality.

Directed by Courage Obayuwana, a protege of the First Features project, Kill Boro explores the complexities of family, survival, the consequences of choices, and the enduring possibility of redemption. Other actors in the film include Ini Dima-Okojie, Greg Ojefua, Hilda Dokubo, Beloved Osagie, Yibo Koko and other stars.

‘Kill Boro’ left guests at the private screening spellbound by the undeniable talent showcased by child actor Kosi Ogboruche. Kosi’s portrayal of Elijah was marked by skill and expertise, serving as a testament to the promising future of Nollywood.

Speaking on his role as Elijah, Kosi says, “Playing Elijah challenged me to push my limits as an actor. Elijah is the rugged street boy, brilliant and strong-willed, driven by love, anger, and desperation for a better life. This role was emotional for me. I was captivated by the character because he was trying to protect his mother from his abusive father, leading him to make hard choices with dire consequences.”

Ini Dima-Okojie, who plays Boma (Elijah’s Mother), expressed her enthusiasm: “Kill Boro is definitely the movie to watch. My role as Boma explored the life of a mother torn between love, family conflict, domestic abuse, and sacrifice. These are common vices families face every day, and the film showcases the impacts these conflicts have on the home and child behaviour, as illustrated by Elijah.”

Courage Obayuwana, who directed Kill Boro, notes that the film portrays the harsh realities faced by individuals residing in abusive households. “We often wonder why people stay in abusive relationships, and this story explores a little bit to see the inner mind of those who choose to stay in abusive homes and how it affects the children. I hope people take note that they have to seek help; if not, it can also affect people around them,” he adds.

On playing Boro, Philip Asaya says, “In this gripping story, Boro is a troubled character battling his demons while on a quest for redemption. The film portrays the negative impacts of family violence on the home and children in particular. I believe there are many lessons to be learnt from the life Boro lived.”

Expressing their thanks to the Kill Boro cast and crew, Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas called for wider industry involvement in the career development of these young directors and emerging actors being discovered and promoted by the First Features Project.

‘Kill Boro’ is the fourth release from a slate of 12 films directed by the First Features Project proteges. The project, spearheaded by Nollywood veterans Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas, provides training, mentorship, and funding for the production of debut feature films by young Nollywood directors.
