Ondo 2024: Barrister Myson Nejo emerges ADC guber candidate

A legal practitioner, Barrister Myson Adeyemi Nejo, emerged on Friday as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the governorship election in Ondo State coming up on November 16, 2024.

The ADC primary, which was held peacefully across the 239 wards of the 18 local government areas of the state, had its collation centre at the Green Park Hotel, Akure, the state capital.

The direct primary election was supervised by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials from the state and its national headquarters in the presence of security agents.

According to the Chairman of the 2024 ADC Governorship Primary Election Committee in the State, Hon. Abdulrazak Eyiowuawi, while announcing the results, Nejo polled 114,911 votes, while his co-contender, Chief Dayo Falana, polled 9,651.

Eyiowuawi disclosed that the party adopted the direct mode of primary election to pick its governorship candidate by voting in the 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state.

He explained that six aspirants initially showed interest in the race, but only two of them obtained the nomination forms while others stepped down.

In his acceptance speech, Nejo, who commended all members of the party for their incredible support through a fair and credible election that produced him as the party’s flag bearer, promised to ensure good governance in the state if elected in the November 16 election.

“The task of governance in our dear state continues to require the best of hands to tackle the challenges militating against the economic prosperity of the state, including insecurity, a high rate of unemployment, a lack of critical infrastructure, and basic social amenities, among other varied problems confronting our state in several other sectors like education, health, and energy.

“A democratic society like ours thrives on the rule of law, which includes respect for the laws of the land, implementation of the laws of our dear country and state in the business of governance without fear or favour, and fundamentally, respect for the judicial process, especially the decisions of the courts.

“If elected as the Governor of Ondo State, we would prioritise adherence to the rule of law, especially because the rule of law-compliant attitude of any country is a factor that could either make or mar its economic prospects,” he promised.

The ADC candidate also pledged to give priority to the education sector if elected and said, “Quality primary and secondary education would occupy a central place in our administration if elected as governor.

“Quality primary and secondary education would occupy a central place in our administration if elected as governor.

“Indeed, the need to put in place quality primary and secondary education to equip our children and teenagers for the challenges of the ever-evolving and technology-driven world of the 21st century cannot be overemphasised.

“In addition, our administration would ensure the provision of resources for the development and acquisition of technology-related skills by young school leavers; this we believe will equip our young people for their future both academically and otherwise,” he stated.

According to him, his administration, if elected, will revamp ailing health facilities and institutions in the state, noting that the health sector in the state was in a state of near-comatoseness, given the dearth of health workers and equipment.

Nejo added that he would institute a credit scheme for farmers to enable farmers in the state to access funds and engage in large-scale production, saying that fertilisers would also be available in large quantities at subsidised rates to aid food production in large quantities.

The ADC candidate said that if voted as governor in the state, he would build a viable infrastructural system that would attract investors into the state, stating that the state government would collaborate with the federal government to tap numerous mineral resources embedded across the state.
