Tragedy struck on Friday as a head-on collision between a Kia car with registration number KWL-475CZ and a stationary 20-foot containerised truck occurred at Isolo Under Bridge inward Oshodi, Lagos State, resulting in one fatality.
According to a statement released by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Friday, the unfortunate incident occurred when the car collided with the truck, which was stationary on the highway.
The impact of the collision led to the death of a female passenger in the car, while the driver sustained serious injuries and was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Upon receiving reports of the accident, officials from LASTMA and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) swiftly responded and worked tirelessly to extricate the trapped individual from the car.
With the aid of light rescue equipment, the victim was successfully freed from the wreckage and subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for transportation to the mortuary.
Additionally, the accident vehicle was recovered with the assistance of a tow truck and has since been relocated to Olosan Police Station for further investigation.
“Meanwhile, we are awaiting the agency’s heavy-duty equipment, i.e., a crane and low bed, to recover the abandoned containerised truck off the road,” the statement titled ‘PRELIMINARY REPORT OF THE ROAD ACCIDENT AT ISOLO UNDER BRIDGE INWARD OSHODI’ added.
The identities of the victims were yet to be known at the time of filing this report.
