Showumi Warns Tinubu About Impact of Bello and El-Rufai’s Challenges on North-South Relations

Segun Showumi cautioned Tinubu about the potential negative repercussions of challenges faced by El-Rufai and Bello on regional relationships
Showumi expressed concern over perceived disregard for agreements with allies who aided Tinubu’s ascent to power in the APC

Segun Showumi, a prominent member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), cautioned President Bola Tinubu about the potential negative repercussions of the challenges faced by former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and Kogi counterpart Yahaya Bello on the relationship between the South West and the Northern region.
In a statement, Showumi highlighted the controversies involving key political figures within the APC since Tinubu assumed office, expressing concern over the perceived disregard for agreements made with allies who played pivotal roles in Tinubu’s ascent to power.
Showumi pointed to the support extended by El-Rufai to Tinubu during the primaries and general elections, only to face subsequent challenges, including a humiliating security report during a Senate clearance dominated by Tinubu loyalists.
Similarly, Showumi raised questions about the treatment of Yahaya Bello, who oversaw the APC membership registration but now finds himself embroiled in embarrassing situations.

Citing these instances as betrayals, Showumi criticized the perceived leniency towards PDP members compared to the challenges faced by those who contributed significantly to Tinubu’s political journey.
Expressing concern over the widening mistrust between the North and the Southwest, Showumi warned that the consequences of such actions could transcend party lines and exacerbate existing tensions between the two regions.
