Winners emerge in fifth Aenon quiz competition

Five winners have emerged in the fifth Aenon Foundation Annual Science Quiz Competition, with the overall winner taking home a brand new laptop and N250,000.

The competition, which targets secondary school students, was held in Osogbo, Osun State on April 13.

This year’s event saw over 220 secondary school students from Osogbo and all the 10 local government areas in Osun West senatorial district battling it out to win the prestigious prizes.

From the 220 students, they were screened to five after the first and second stages of the competition.

Supported by Dr Ademola Adedapo, the Chief Executive Officer of Aenon Suites and Hotel, Osogbo, the final stage witnessed the presence of many dignitaries across the state, including Honorable Eluwole Sunday Adedipo, the Commissioner for Education in the state; Oba Abdulazeez Olatunbosun Adebamiji, the Akire of Ikire; Mr  M.A.K.  Jimoh, permanent secretary, Ministry of Education; Alhaji Dauda Aminu, among others.

At the end of the competition, Adeyemi Burihan of Fakunle Comprehensive School, Osogbo, came first and won a new laptop and N250,000, while

Arilesere Faruq of African Church Grammar School, Apomu came second and won N150,000.

The third place went to Odudele Goodluck of Ataoja High School, Osogbo, who won N100,000, while the fourth and fifth positions went to Ademola Muminat of Baptist High School, Ejigbo and Adetokun Alaba of Adventist High School, Ede, both won N50,000.

At the end of the event, Dr Adedapo said the idea behind the competition is to encourage more secondary school students to study science subjects and provide solutions to the majority of the challenges facing the country.

He said he would continue to sponsor the competition in order to contribute his quota to the educational development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
